A new report by Arakan Oil Watch (AOW) called “Danger Zone” alleges 
that a planned Chinese industrial zone threatens the livelihoods of tens 
of thousands of people in Arakan State as well as Burma’s second largest mangrove forest.

Local residents to protest CNPC on Kyaukpru’s Madae Island

The local residents said they are planning to stage a protest outside 
the office of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) 
that is in charge of projects related to the gas and oil pipelines

UN Envoy Visits Rakhine Refugees

A UN official calls on leaders in Burma’s Rakhine state to accept 
ethnic differences for peace.
The U.N.’s special advisor on Burma on Wednesday visited refugee camps 
for those displaced by communal violence in restive Rakhine state, stressing 
the need to ensure the safety of Muslim Rohingyas who rights groups say 
bore the brunt of the violence.
