Residents near coal-fired power plant to leave their homes

Sangkhlaburi (Mizzima) – Residents living near the almost completed 
coal-fired power plant in Kawthaung Township in Tanintharyi Region in 
southern Burma say they will abandon their homes and move before 
the power plant goes into operation in June. A trial run of the plant 
will begin on April 10.

Mongla to be reopened for tourists from Thailand

Tourists coming from Thailand will soon be able to travel to Mongla 
on the Sino-Burmese border through the Maesai-Tachilek checkpoint, 
according to sources close to the Mongla leadership.
Mongla is roughly 240 km from Maesai. Tourism to Mongla, also known 
as Burma’s Las Vegas, was closed following tensions generated by 
Naypyitaw’s demand that all ceasefire groups become Burma 
Army-run Border Guard Forces (BGFs) in 2009.

Thein Sein praises Vietnam’s economic development

(Mizzima) – Burmese President Thein Sein praised Vientam’s economic 
success in talks on Tuesday, marking his first visit to Vietnam which 
supported Burma in its quest to become Asean chair in 2014.
